National Garden Scheme Open Gardens

Local gardens to visit with the National Garden Scheme.

This year over 3,600 private gardens are open in England and Wales through the National Garden Scheme. This charity raises funds for nursing and health charities through admission tickets, tea and cake. It has been going for over 90 years and is the most significant charitable funder of nursing in the UK. Despite the challenges faced in the last year, NGS was still able to donate £2.88 million to nursing charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK Parkinson’s UK and Mind and charities supporting gardens and health like Maggie’s and Horatio’s Garden.

In Suffolk over 60 gardens are opening this year: some like Ashe Park, Campsea Ashe, Field Cottage, Felixstowe and Manor House, Middleton are opening for the first time. Delicious homemade teas will be available at most of the gardens and children go free. Full descriptions, photographs and directions for all the gardens and how to book tickets online can be found at www.ngs.org.uk
