Meet: Moose in Woodbridge

Moose is a cosy little fashion and homeware boutique tucked away on Market Hill in Woodbridge. The store was taken over in 2019 by Sam Cook on returning from Australia where she had been working in a high-end boutique.

“The main thing I’ve learned about running an independent shop, is that it’s all about customer service. It’s so important that each person that comes into my shop has a lovely experience no matter what they buy – whether it’s a keyring or a £200 coat”, explains Sam.

Sam wants her customers to feel as if they are walking into a dressing room, and she has taken care to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

“I love classic clothes with a modern twist, and love a bit of sparkle or colour that suits any age. For example camo trousers are really in right now – pair them with a classic sweater and you’ve found my style.”

Sam loves the idea of offering high-quality items at a reasonable price so that everybody can enjoy brands such as Chalk and Rino & Pelle as well as brands that are sustainable.

“I wanted a shop where every local could come in and have that fabulous in-shop experience at a reasonable cost and go away with it wrapped in tissue and a bow on the bag. I just really wanted it to be affordable for everyone, locals as well as holidaymakers.”

Now Sam and her lovely team of Natalie, Jane, June and Jill, are looking forward to reopening this Spring, placing a lovely bench outside the shop so that if they’re busy, you can sit outside in the sun with a cuppa from the Strawberry Cafe until you feel comfortable coming in.

They also hope to start opening on Sundays too, to benefit those customers who are not quite ready to embrace crowds just yet.

“I always say customer service is free – being kind and friendly doesn’t cost you a penny. The lady in the florist down the road said, ‘People may not remember what they bought from you, but they’ll always remember how you treated them’, and I really believe that.”
