Introducing… Rose & Guy

Ipswich mum, Nikki Golding is the face behind Rose & Guy, the organic clothing brand for 0-3 year-olds. Here she tells Vanilla what inspires her to start her own business…

“I’m Nikki, I’m 33 years old and have two children – Isaac, six and Summer, three. I started Rose & Guy back in 2014 when Isaac was nine months old, as I struggled to find boys clothes that I liked. It started as a hobby, just making leggings for him, but as I had so much interest from friends, I decided to give it a go and start up my own business.

“My target customers are mainly mums aged between 20-35 years old and I get a lot of repeat business from them as their children grow – so that’s from newborn until they’re about three years old.

“Lockdown was the busiest I’ve ever been as I think everyone wanted to ‘support small’ which was amazing. My seamstresses set up courier pick-ups from their homes to deliver the pieces they make for me so that they didn’t have to leave their houses. I also change the way I posted out my parcels by setting up an online Royal Mail account so that I could print it all from home and just drop into my local post office, making the whole process contactless.

“The children’s baby clothing sector is hugely saturated and it’s hard to compete so I just try and make what I love. I think people buy from me because they like the ethos of the brand and they also like supporting me and my family. I share a lot of behind-the-scenes of the family and how I make everything.

“My husband is my biggest champion – he pushes me to follow my dream constantly and gives me the confidence to believe in myself and my brand!”
