Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme

It’s estimated around 5 million people across England are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In Suffolk & North East Essex, the prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes is on average 5.1%, with an average of 12% of the population being eligible for the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme. We know three in five cases of type 2 diabetes can be prevented, and this can be achieved by making lifestyle changes with the support of your Local NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme. The NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme is open to those with pre-diabetes to help reduce their chances of developing Type 2 diabetes.

The programme consists of a mixture of one-to-one and group sessions delivered by specially trained health and wellbeing coaches. Throughout the programme participants learn how to prevent diabetes by incorporating healthier eating, physical activity, problem-solving, stress-reduction and coping skills into their daily lives.

To easily assess your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes, you can access the Know Your Risk tool here. Please share this within your organisations and the communities you work with to give everyone the opportunity to assess their own health
