Fitness Goes Online: Adapting In A Pandemic

Fitness specialists say home-working and a growth in technology do not have to spell the end for gym membership. There is a greater capacity for people to work remotely which has meant an increase in leisure-time, and we have seen huge advancements in technologies.

So many fitness centres have switched their offerings to online classes and app-based training plans. StudioFlex, the new class-based fitness centre in the Nacton area of Ipswich, is one gym that’s offering online fitness classes to help their customers stay connected during the latest national lockdown.

StudioFlex had already been forced to cancel a launch back in March 2020 when the first lockdown was enforced two days
before its grand opening. Since September, the company has managed to open its doors for a total of just 12 weeks which has led them to encourage all fitness enthusiasts to stay in touch with friends and continue their fitness journeys via video.

There are 11 different instructors at StudioFlex and between them they are offering at least one online session each day with classes including vinyasa and slow flow yoga, pilates, core stability and a revival of the 80s classic ‘legs bums and tums’.

This not-for-profit promotion will see StudioFlex transfer all proceeds from the online classes to its instructors during what is a difficult time for freelance workers.

“The support that our clients and instructors have shown us has been incredible,” said StudioFlex manager James
Peasey. “We want to encourage our clients to stay on course with their New Year fitness goals by staying active during this latest lockdown period. There are 100 places available in each class, so we hope that many people from all over the region will be able to take the opportunity to enjoy a fitness experience with one of our incredible professionals,” he said

Peasey concludes: “Exercise and interaction with others can form a major part in peoples’ wellbeing. When we are able to
open again we will assess how things have gone and if online classes have proved to be popular we hope to continue the service.”

All fitness classes can be accessed by downloading the StudioFlex app from their website studioflex.co.uk or the App Store.
