Hughes and Friend is a left-field floral design company based in Norfolk, started by best friends Kalaina and Anna during the first lockdown. 

Kalaina had previously taken herself off to London but, after a decade of training and working in the Fashion industry, she gravitated back to Norfolk in search of a lifestyle that made space for her real love: flowers. Anna had a brief stint in the South West but eventually returned to Norwich to pursue a career in Live Events; ranging from festivals to corporate conferences all over the UK and Europe.

“The idea of the business was to bring the Norfolk floral scene something a little bit different. We offer anything and everything flower-based, from hand-delivered bouquets to installations, events and weddings,” the duo told us. 

Hughes and Friend has been a dream of previously self-employed florist Kalaina and she finally managed to get Anna on board when lockdown meant she was furloughed from her job as an events manager. 

Anna explained: “Kalaina’s time in London has taught us how long a trend can take to catch on in rural areas like Norfolk – we strive to keep our finger on the pulse and make our offering different to what is already available here. We live here and understand the demographic of people in Norwich, so it made sense. It’s also a creative and caring little city, its inhabitants just love a small business.”

Summer is quickly knocking on the door (we hope!) and so now is the perfect time to grab a little special something as a treat, Hughes and Friends even have a new collection launching in June, just in time for when restrictions lighten again.

The future is looking bright for this lovely local company, especially once restrictions start easing even more, the duo explained: “The pandemic is all H&F has ever known, we haven’t had the chance to provide what we had originally dreamed of. Although it has opened a lot of other doors for us, like local flower deliveries and collaborating with other small businesses – we couldn’t be happier to finally be talking to couples about their wedding day flowers and seeing our event diary fill up.” 

Their customers seem to think that they’re quite the blossoming team, one stating: “Hughes & Friend designed and installed the most amazing autumnal floral decorations for my front door in October. Everything was beautifully arranged and in the most perfect seasonal colours. I had people knocking on the door just to tell me how beautiful it looked! Needless to say, I have asked the girls to come and do another installation for me. Highly recommend their services for making boujee dreams a reality!”
